MAMMA’s Resources
Some of Our Favorite Sites Advocating for Marriage Equality
(Scroll down for anti-same-sex marriage sites.)
This is an online organizing network for pushing for progressive change and equality in California. They have several current actions in support of same-sex marriage and have declared their support for a California marriage equality ballot measure in 2010. They are also seeking funding for an updated Fidelity TV ad. You can’t top the original, but this one is still good.
EQCA works to achieve equality and secure legal protections for LGBT people. EQCA has a strong argument for taking our issue to the ballot in 2010, rather than 2012. There are risks in the earlier date, but with folks like you, talking with your neighbors over your backyard, we could win!
This organization is working to end the harm caused by religion-based bigotry. They have good articles, good intentions and good karma, although MAMMA’s too old to know exactly what that is — we’ve heard the kids use it.
A civil rights organization, working for LGBT equality. They have one of the best Marriage and Relationship issues pages, loaded with news, legislation, articles, etc. Their FAQs about same-sex marriage are great.
Lambda has advocated in and out of the courts for LGBT civil rights since 1973. MAMMA recommends you do your homework and read everything on Lambda’s site about marriage and same-sex relationships, in particular their Five Key Reasons for Marriage Equality, Civil Unions Are Not Enough and their survey of the Status of Same-Sex Relationships Nationwide. All offer some good talking points.
They are dedicated to securing equal marriage rights in California and nurturing a new generation of civil rights leader. The site has a good section for getting prepared to talk about same-sex marriage, Teach.
Their goal is to secure legally recognized civil marriage equality for all, at the federal and state level, without regard to gender identity or sexual orientation. Check out their Why Marriage page.
National Lesbian and Gay Task Force
The Task Force organizes and trains activists and advocates for LGBT issues from the grassroots level up. They have some good downloadable reports on their Marriage/Partner Recognition page.
This wonderful blog operates as an online LGBT news magazine, covering lots of issue, but with plenty of focus on marriage equality. We highly recommend it — and we wish Pam were our kid.
Soulforce’s vision is freedom from religious and political oppression for LGBT people through the practice of relentless nonviolent resistance. Among their many quite readable publications, they have addressed concerns about messages from Focus on the Family in “A False Focus on My Family.”
Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations
UUs believe that the first principal of their faith, respecting the inherent worth and dignity of every person, applies equally to people of all orientations and gender identities. Consequently, they are great supporters of marriage equality.
