On writing endings: Sometimes life is like the movies. The End!               – Elise

Daughter: I found Jesus, Mom. I found him. He was lost, or perhaps misplaced, but I found him!
Mother: Where?
Daughter: I found him underneath the passenger seat of my car. Can you believe he was there this whole time!!!
Mother: Heaven’s under the seat of your car?! Who knew?
Daughter: Right!?
Mother: I need a pic of Jesus under your car seat asap for a blog announcement

–  Many thanks to Kate Gressitt-Diaz for this bit of flash fiction

Daughter: It’s not fiction! He’s really there — under the passenger seat!

“ … You found Chuy! Why was he hiding under the seat? Eround da neighborhood we ain’t seen him for a while. Think of it, we actually dinn’t know him for a very long time either, till he started coming around saying he was looking for special minerals stones -something about them having h-e-e-e-l-i-n-g powers , especially them yellow shiny ones. That was a very long time ago though. But, once he brought his friends witt’im – a lawyer, a real estate guy and a finance expert, he called them the trinity – it all went downhill for us. Nottin’ was ever the same after that. The three concurred that we had to give up everything if we wanted to save our souls. We missed Chuy after he went missing.

… but wait, I was having some mezcal the other night with Pepe (real name Jose) and he mentioned that he had SEEN Chuy, somewhere in South Carolina. At first he didn’t recognize him. Chuy was riding in a late model BMW, wore a three-piece Brioni suit, really shiny shoes and a hat like Pecos Bill; he also had no beard or long hair anymore, but he still carried the leather-bound Bible that we used to see him with. No wonder I didn’t recognize him I told him. All the while, I had been looking for humble bearded guy in a white robe and walking a donkey. “Yeah, Chuy prefers the sunbelt nowadays”, Pepe retorted. ” – excerpts from a forthcoming narrative piece.
